CMMS is a linux-based operating system and user interface for selfmade car MP3 players.
It's design goal is to allow many different, yet powerful ways to
control the MP3 player while driving.
There are several keypad mappings and you can add your own custom one.
It is possible to jump directly to a
certain song on a certain album, or you can just jump from one
file or album to another sequentially.
Due to its modular and extensible design, CMMS is a good starting
point for creating your very own car MP3 player system. We know of users who
added infrared control without problems.
- Control devices: Numerical keyboard, custom keyboard mapping (this way
selfmade
input devices are supported), wheel button (a digital selector which looks like a volume potti and is connected to the controller chip of a standard keyboard), web server/browser interface
- Feedback devices: LCD (Hitachi HD44780 controller), speech synthesis, can be controlled blind (can be important while driving!)
- MP3 file uploading: Mobile rack or FTP
- Playlists which store one ore more archives of albums (you can jump albumwise)
- Saves exact position in playlist and song to continue playback after reboot
- Other features: Random play, id3-tag support, jump, equalizer,...
- Programming language: C and shell scripts
- Core MP3 player: mpg123 by Michael Hipp
